5G Farms is a 5th Generation organic farm founded in the early 1900’s. The first crops planted on the farm were cotton and peanuts. As the farm was passed to the next generation there was an orchard planted in the back of the property and pears, apricots, nectarines and plums became the crop of that generation. The following generation while continuing to harvest and care for the orchard did not actively expand the farm however, when the farm was left to the next generation the process of organic farming began with all that it entails. From fruit, to produce and eggs, even dairy goats for cheese and soap. We have worms for composting and fishing, and we raise quail both for the eggs and the meat.
We have future plans for selling mushrooms, saffron, and other specialty items. We have made a commitment to use no commercial fertilizers or pesticides and grow an all natural, organic product. We have chosen not to be "certified organic" by the USDA as the process of becoming Certified only increases our costs and the cost to you as the consumer. None of the previous generations used any type of commercial fertilizers or chemicals so the decision to grow organic was an easy one. By making our own organic compost and using natural means for pest control, we can bring you the cleanest and freshest goods that we can provide.
This farm will always be a work in progress and there are three generations living and working on the farm at this moment. One of our goals is to offer tours of the farm and fix a Chuck wagon breakfast over an open fire once a week. We are so excited about this journey and look forward to bringing you along with us.
